HTH SCI 2RR3 INTRODUCTION TO THE SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH

This course provides an introduction to a number of macrohealth issues including determinants of health and political, economic and social factors that influence the organization of health care systems. This course introduces the biological, behavioural, social, economic and environmental factors that determine the health of populations. Major components to the course include: assessing health and socioeconomic status, understanding the structure and organization of the Canadian health care system, public policy, and several factors that affect health; such as, gender, income, work, & social exclusion. Lectures/seminars (two hours each) guided self-study (one hour); one term Prerequisite(s): Registration in Level II of the B.Sc.N. (A), (B) or (F) Stream; or registration in Level II of the B.Sc.N. (E) Stream; or registration in Level II of the Midwifery Education program; or permission of the instructor. Antirequisite(s): HTH SCI 3B03
